Today’s quote straight up made me laugh because it’s true.
Sometimes when finding wonder you have an expectation of what that will look like and it turns out to be something completely different.
Maybe you imagine you’ll be ushered past velvet ropes, one by one, into a dimly lit room where you gaze in awe at a floor-to-ceiling size masterpiece of the Mona Lisa and wisely nod your head as the curator explains the brush strokes favoured by the artist himself?
Not so my friends. You’ll be swept along art filled corridors by the hordes, all on the hunt for the woman with a sly smile and be carried into a large room with a sole frame on one wall, not much taller than a tennis racquet. It would nearly be enough to chance a glance of the woman from afar but alas even that proves difficult amongst the gentle swaying of arms raised high, grasping onto all manner of camera’s, smart phones and recording devices. Eventually you wiggle your way to the front only to realise that a photo of the painting really doesn’t do it justice or show it in proportion and find it far more amusing to try to take photos of people taking photos. Sometimes wonder takes a different form from what you were expecting….
