Finding Wonder 19 of 100

Everytime I see this photo I think “She’s a ride or die kinda gal”. Which is amusing probably only to me and more so that she’s probably just doing her daily grocery shopping. She was definately loveing life either way. We navigated the traffic ourselves on wild little scooters although nothing quite as trendy as htis, and the wonder was that we didn’t get severly injured in the process!? 😉

Words are from Edward Whitacre Jr, ex-CEO of General Motors, who was accredited with turning the company around during its dire years. Interesting article about how he handled hte management team here.
Be willing to step outside your comfort zone once in a while, take risks in life that seem worth taking. The ride might not be as predictable if you’d just planted your feet and stayed put, but it will be a heck of a lot more interesting – edward whitacre jr.

A person can learn a lot from a dog, even a loopy one like ours. Marley taught me about living each day with unbridled exuberance and joy, about seizing the moment and following your heart. He taught me to appreciate the simple things – a walk in the woods, a fresh snowfall, a nap in a shaft of winter sunlight. And as he grew old and achy, he taught me about optimism in the face of adversity. Mostly, he taught me about friendship and selflessness and, above all else, unwavering loyalty – John Grogan

In the Louvre there are thousands and thousands of paintings hanging on the walls (did I mention thousands??) but this one in particular caught my eye. I love the concept of paintings within paintings and how it represented the very Louvre I was standing in. It hasn’t been until years later that technology has caught up and I was able to “google image search” this to find out who painted it. Turns out it’s from 1758! What a wonder it is that we have technology AND can appreciate a piece of art painted centuries ago today.

Picture Gallery with Views of Modern Rome

Painter: Giovanni Paolo Panini
Date:1758
Style: Baroque
Genre: interior
Media: oil
Dimensions: 233 x 172.1 cm

“Picture Gallery with Views of Modern Rome or simply Modern Rome is a painting by Italian artist Giovanni Paolo Panini. It is currently owned and on display at the Musée du Louvre in Paris. The painting shows the arrangement of paintings originally commissioned by Count de Stainville, later the Duke de Choiseul. He was the ambassador to Rome from between 1753 and 1757. The Duke is seated on an armchair, in the painting. Among some of the works depicted in this work are, Michelangelo’s Moses, Bernini’s statute of Constantine, David, Apollo and Daphne. The fountains Bernini designed are also featured in the painting. The painting is the pendant to Ancient Rome” – Wikiart.org

Every time I see this photo it brings me joy. On the same day, we witnessed a skateboard rally race at the park across the road and watched the winners cheering along with their mascot goat…

i look out the window and I see the lights and the skyline and the people on the street rushing around looking for action, love, and the world’s greatest chocolate chip cookie, and my heart does a little dance – nora ephron

Unplanned wonders are the greatest. ESPECIALLY when shared with old friends.

After a late lunch with J2 & Jas, we found ourselves at the Loose Moose with the unplanned chance to experience a vintage 1978 Glenrothes whisky. I’m no “wh-iskyconnoisseur (or even a lover to be honest) but it was fun and I’m an appreciator of things that have taken time to develop into the things are to become. Much like the best things in life. Much like friendship.

These words are from John Wooden, Head Coach of University of California for over 30 years. Born in 1910, he married his sweetheart at 21 years old and remained married for 53 years until his wife passed away. The words above were given to him by his father as the “Seven Point Creed” upon his grammer school graduation. Below is a TED talk he gave in 2001.

be true to yourself, help others, make friendship a fine art, drink deeply from good books, especially the bible, build a shelter against a rainy day, give thanks for blessings and pray for guidance every day – john wooden

Friendship is one of the most beautiful and treasured wonders a person will ever be blessed to have in this life. You may never know how it is formed, but it is the stuff that makes the heart run over.

Photo was captured from the banks of Hirosaki Park as dusk fell. These three guys were clearly the greatest of friends and it was amusing to watch their interactions as they attempted to navigate the canal and their ship of the high seas.

This photo was taken on dusk, as evening fell across Victoria Bay. Hong Kong is such a vibrant, bustling little city that the serenity of this moment is almost at odds against what springs to my mind when I think of HK.
